STM32 F4 Discovery
The STM32F4 Discovery board is a development kit based on the STM32F407VG microcontroller. It is a powerful audio development tool that includes a built-in ST-LINK/V2-A debugger, ST MEMS accelerometer, digital microphone, digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with built-in Class-D speaker amplifier, LEDs, buttons and USB OTG Micro-AB connector. Specialised add-on boards can be connected to it via expansion connectors.
The STM32F4 Discovery board features the STM32F407VGT6 microcontroller with a 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M4 core with floating point unit (FPU), 1 MB of Flash memory and 192 KB of RAM in an LQFP100 package. The board also includes the following features:
- USB OTG FS
- 3-axis ST MEMS accelerometer
- MEMS ST digital directional microphone
- Digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) with integrated Class D loudspeaker amplifier
- User and reset buttons
- Eight LEDs: LD1 (red/green) for USB communication, LD2 (red) for 3.3 V power on, four user LEDs LD3 (orange), LD4 (green), LD5 (red) and LD6 (blue), two LEDs USB OTG, LD7 (green) VBUS and LD8 (red) overload
- Board connectors: USB with Micro-AB, stereo headphone jack, 2.54 mm expansion connector for all LQFP100 inputs/outputs for quick connection to the prototyping board and easy probing
- Flexible power options: ST-LINK, USB VBUS or external power sources
- External application power supply: 3 V and 5 V
- Extensive freeware package, including many examples, part of the STM32CubeF4 MCU package or STSW-STM32068 to use older standard libraries
- Built-in ST-LINK/V2-A debugger/programmer with USB reassignment: storage, virtual COM port and debug port
- Support for a wide selection of integrated development environments (IDEs), including IAR Embedded Workbench®, MDK-ARM and STM32CubeIDE
The STM32F4 Discovery board is an ideal tool for developing audio applications such as music players, audio recorders and speech recognition systems. It is also an excellent tool for learning to program STM32F4 microcontrollers.
